State Summer Games

The COVID-19 pandemic gave Special Olympics Montana (SOMT) an opportunity to take its premier event, the 2021 State Summer Games, to every corner of Montana.  Athletes and Unified Partners trained and competed in five outdoor Olympic-style sports from their home communities.  Those sports included:  Athletics (Track and Field), Bocce, Cycling, Golf, Soccer, and for those who were uncomfortable returning to in-person activities, Compete-From-Home events. At the culmination of the season, participants scores were submitted to SOMT. Staff tabulated results and determined how the athletes placed among their peers from across Montana.

Several games traditions were kept alive and well during the 2021 State Summer Games.  SOMT distributed goodie bags and souvenir programs to every registered athlete.  The Law Enforcement Torch Run, Final Leg, Opening Ceremony, Dance, Closing Ceremony, MTN/Chevy Raffle Drawing, took place. Live streaming from team practices was also featured.
