The COVID-19 pandemic has given Special Olympics Montana (SOMT) an opportunity to take its premier event, the 2021 State Summer Games, to every corner of Montana. From March 1st – May 15th, athletes will train and compete in five outdoor Olympic-style sports from their home communities. Those sports will include: Athletics (Track and Field), Bocce, Cycling, Golf, Soccer, and for those uncomfortable returning to in-person activities, Compete-From-Home events. At the culmination of the season, athletes’ scores will be submitted to SOMT. Staff will tabulate results to determine how the athletes placed among their peers from across Montana.
Several games traditions will be kept alive and well during the 2021 State Summer Games. SOMT will distribute goodie bags and souvenir programs to every registered athlete. Plans are also underway for the Law Enforcement Torch Run, Final Leg, Opening Ceremony, Dance, Closing Ceremony, MTN/Chevy Raffle Drawing, and Live streaming from team practices.
Tune-in to check out the athletes in action!
