After two years of regional Games, the Bozeman Games Management Team is ecstatic to be Together at Last! In May, athletes from across the state will travel to Bozeman for the much-anticipated Special Olympics Montana State Summer Games!
Due to restrictions of the past few years, the 2023 State Summer Games will essentially be the first and final statewide Games of Bozeman’s 3-year rotation. Most venues will primarily be on MSU Bozeman’s campus (bocce, track and field, soccer, and cycling), but swimming will be held at Eagle Mount, gymnastics at Lone Mountain Gymnastics, and Bridger Creek Golf Course will host golf.
Special Olympics Montana (SOMT) is expecting approximately 1,000 athletes and 200 unified partners to compete. Athletes with intellectual disabilities who are 8 years or older are welcomed.
2022 Athlete of the Year, Kyler Morrison, extends an invitation to the public, “I would invite people to come watch the Games! These are people who have accomplished a whole bunch of things–big or small, these accomplishments are huge for Special Olympics athletes.”
Providing a smooth and memorable experience requires incredible support. SOMT estimates that 950-1,000 volunteers will be needed for the May 17-19th games. Opportunities are extensive and varied! Field Officials, Awards, Photographers, Venue Directors, Check-in are just a few possibilities. Visit www.somt.org for full list and to sign up. Civic/school groups can contact Vice President of Sports, Brittani Bush, directly at bbush@somt.org or 406-315-4216.
