
19 Aug Montana Represents at USA Games in Florida
The 2022 USA Games held June 5-12 in Orlando, Florida were full of personal bests, unforgettable moments and so much joy!
The Montana delegation of 33 included athletes, Unified partners, coaches, a golf official, an LETR Officer and Special
Olympics Montana staff.
It’s difficult to share all the experiences and opportunities experienced by Team Montana, but enjoy some highlights below.

- Team Montana Golf included Chelsee Nelson, Coach Tim Weber, Phillip Maurer and his unified partner Patrick Winderl, and Mitch Grubb. Maurer and his unified partner Patrick Winderl.

- Several athletes from Team Montana had the opportunity to join the set and meet some of the anchors from Good Morning America on June 6th.

- Team Montana’s first medal was won by Kim Maytum who placed third in bocce singles on June 7th! Kim is pictured with coach, Lynne Corneliusen.

- Team Montana members Cari Knowles, Kiana Hauge-Warren, Shawn McKahan, Coach Jenny Griswold, and Dusty Deist had a chance to meet and snap a picture with Tim Shriver. Shriver is Chairman of the Special Olympics International Board of Directors, and together with 6 million Special Olympics athletes in more than 200 countries, promotes health, education, and a more unified world through the joy of sport.

- Swimmers Kallie Robbins, Dalan Dagan, Nikole Brevik, and Kaden Rosenstein visited the Happiest Place on Earth.

- Team Montana’s Dusty Deist won a Silver medal in the 100 meter run and also a bronze in the mini javelin!

- The athletics team with coach Jenny Griswold pose at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at the Walt Disney Resort.

- Athlete Stacey Johnston-Gleason served as a golf official for the week of competition in Orlando. Her duties were to ensure consistent and fair play between all athletes and guarantee that all rules and regulations were followed to the highest standards.

- SOMT Unified Partner Fern Stewart interviewed Tim Shriver during the Youth Leadership experience at USA Games. Unified partners like Fern served in authentic volunteer roles, engaged in educational and interactive experiences, and shadowed experienced volunteers during USA Games.
