The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
Special Olympics Montana strives to fully implement the Special Olympics, Inc. mission and be the “charity of choice” in Montana which is financially stable, increasingly endowed and served by a strong, well-trained volunteer force.
By 2020 we will have sustainable quality growth that serves 3,000 athletes annually.
Special Olympics, Inc. is the world’s largest program of sports training and athletic competition for individuals with intellectual disabilities. More than one million athletes and 500,000 volunteers participate in Special Olympics world-wide.
Special Olympics serves competitors at all ability levels by assigning them to “competition divisions” based on both age and actual performance. Whether athletes are high or low functioning, they may advance all the way to the World Games! Unified Sports® training and competition brings together athletes with and without intellectual disabilities to share in the spirit of sports.
