RE: Covid-19 UpdateFYI: Return to Activities Phased Approach
With respect to the health and safety of all members of the Special Olympics movement, Special Olympics Montana (SOMT) has initiated a phased approach to return to activities. We have adopted a three (3) phased approach aligning with compliance requirements set forth by Governor Bullock.
It is important to note SOMT is currently operating in phase 2 but may need to revert to an earlier phase if the spread of infection rises. We must continually monitor this ever-changing situation and adjust accordingly.
SOMT’s Return to Activities Phases apply to sports and competition, training, health and fitness, leadership, fundraising and local events. Before returning to activities, all programs must adhere to the appropriate phased expectations including compliance, size of gatherings, education, and preparation. Likewise, all programs must attend to specific risk assessment and risk mitigation factors outlined for sport, schools, Healthy Athletes and leadership.
For complete details see Special Olympics Return to Activities Protocol below: Return to Activities Protocol Stay Safe and Well! Until Covid-19 is eradicated, a vaccine is developed, or a cure is found, there is no way of completely eliminating the risk of infection, especially since many within the movement (with and without intellectual disabilities) are at greater risk for complications from Covid-19. For more information about Who is at Higher Risk from Covid-19 see the link below: Who is at Higher Risk from Covid-19 If you are at a high risk, you may be putting yourself at risk when you return to activities with Special Olympics. But, you may also put your family and your teammates at risk. If you have these conditions, you should not return to Special Olympics in person activities until Phase 3.
Be in touch…As we continue to adjust to our new normal at Special Olympics, I believe that putting people first means securing their safety. We are in this together, we welcome your ideas, questions, or concerns.
Please be in touch if I can assist.
