RE: Coronavirus- An Update from SOMT- 5-26-2020
With continued concern over coronavirus in the U.S., Special Olympics Montana wishes to follow-up earlier communication distributed March 17th, 2020.
Following the advisement of Special Olympics International, we will extend the suspension of in-person sport training and competition activities and other programs involving our athletes through June 30, 2020, at which time the situation will be reevaluated.
Special Olympics Montana is prohibiting in-person events for 10 or more people through June 30, 2020. From all of us at Special Olympics Montana, we are acutely aware of the challenges created by postponing programming for our athletes. The health and safety of our athletes, volunteers, staff, and partners remains our top priority. Using evidence available at this time, including emerging data showing elevated risk for people with intellectual disabilities developing serious illness if they contract coronavirus, we feel the dangers outweigh the benefits. For now, we hope everyone is engaging in our virtual programming! With the Virtual Games underway, Game on SOMT!
