2019 Distinguished Service Award for UCS Announced

Riverview Elementary School was chosen as the
2019 Distinguished Service Award for
Unified Champion School!

Great Falls Riverview Elementary received this Distinguished Service Award on Wednesday, February 5th at 8:30 AM.  This was a surprise to staff and students as they gathered for a school assembly to receive their award.

Nominations are sought out by the Special Olympics Montana Outreach department as well as a DSA Committee to select the honoree by reviewing the nominations.  Riverview Elementary School was nominated by the Great Falls Lions Special Olympics Team.

“You won the hearts of our nominating committee for all of the hard work and dedication you have shown in spreading the joy of Special Olympics at your school over the past 4 years,” commented Special Olympics Director of Innovation Bill Salonen.

“We are honoring your school because you have supported the Great Falls Lions by opening your doors for our Special Olympics athletes to practice in your gym all year-round, for having fundraisers that benefit Special Olympics, for being our fans in the stands, and, most importantly, for having demonstrated inclusion every day at your school. This then spreads to families and community members, which creates a greater understanding of what it means to be a community of acceptance and inclusion,” Salonen continued.

Principal Luke Diekhans and his students / staff received this award because they are the school that most effectively and successfully embraces Unified Sports, Youth Leadership, and Whole School Engagement.

Congratulations to all at Riverview Elementary School!
