25 Jun CEO Change Effective July 1
|Dear Fans of Special Olympics Montana,|
In early February Special Olympics Montana (SOMT) announced that I would be making a lane change in our organization to focus on building a robust endowment while I remain employed prior to retiring yearend. I’m grateful that our Board of Directors saw the wisdom in utilizing my tenure to help secure our mission in perpetuity before I completely retire.
This foresight triggered a deliberate search for a new CEO. I’m proud to say that the Board of Directors hired our current Chief Operating Officer, Rhonda McCarty, to succeed me effective July 1, 2019. As COO the past five years, Rhonda has an intimate understanding of our mission and has demonstrated her ability to effectively lead this movement. I couldn’t be more pleased with the Board’s decision and hope you will stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Rhonda to carry on the important work we do to transform the lives of the athletes and communities we serve.
All this said, I will become Executive Director of the SOMT Reveal the Champion in All of Us endowment campaign July 1. Charged with leading efforts to raise $10MM with our endowment campaign leadership council members, we plan to achieve our goal and secure this mission in perpetuity by the time I formally retire from SOMT, yearend 2020. Come July 1, please welcome Rhonda McCarty as your new President and CEO. She can be reached at: email@example.com or by calling 406-315-4209. My contact information will remain the same.
I want to express my deep appreciation for all you have done to support SOMT. It has been a privilege and honor to shine a light on and lift up people with intellectual differences who, as Missoula Otters athlete and dear friend Keough Duffy once told me at State Summer Games, ”I feel really good about myself because everyone here treats me the way I want to be”.
While we’ve made tremendous progress over the years, there remains an urgency to reach more people with intellectual differences in Montana who are simply waiting on the sidelines to join the game of life through sports training and competition, health and education, and community-building initiatives. Just as athletes give their personal best, I hope you will continue your generous support as we stretch to be our best selves. We’re in this together. And together we win.
With much gratitude,
Bob NorbiePresident & Chief Executive Fan (until July 1, 2019)
Executive Director, Reveal the Champion in All of Us Endowment Campaign (Effective July 1, 2019)
