Dear Coaches/LPC’s/Area Directors:
The 2008 State Winter Games (SWG) will be here in just a few short months. Many exciting things have happened at Big Mountain and to the SWG. First, the beautiful "Base Lodge" (formerly the Outpost) is 100 percent completed, and it is magnificent. Second, we will be adding another level of Alpine competition to the games. More on that right after the holidays. Third, Big Mountain has changed its name to Whitefish Mountain Resort. Finally, many of you are aware that the Alpinglow Inn has closed. This closure will allow them to repair their structure and have it ready to go for us in 2009.
With the closure of the Alpinglow Inn - Special Olympics Montana has been working with the Whitefish Mountain Resort to secure reduced lodging rates in their condominiums located on the mountain. In fact one condo complex is right next to the Alpinglow Inn. Enclosed is the price sheet for the condos located on the mountain & the booking procedures. Although the rates are significantly reduced they still may not be viable for your teams. Condo rates: 2 beds/1-4 people $115. 3 beds/1-6 people $150 (plus tax).
If you elect to stay in Whitefish rather than in a condo on the mountain, I would like to suggest that you stay at the beautiful, Grouse Mountain Lodge. Grouse Mountain Lodge is the OFFICIAL Host Hotel for the 2008 State Winter Games. The Grouse Mountain Lodge features spacious rooms, an Indoor Pool, Sauna, Outdoor Hot Tubs, Fitness Center, Restaurant & a Snowshoe Course located right outside the lodge. In addition, there is a Complimentary Shuttle Service to and from the mountain. The shuttle departs Grouse Mountain Lodge at 8:30 a.m. 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. and again at 3:30 p.m. 4:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. The shuttle service is ideal for family members or friends who wish to see their athletes compete but who wish to sleep in.
In addition, SOMT has arranged for the Grouse Mountain Lodge to provide breakfast for you at no charge to you. Breakfast will be available at a special time - 6:00 a.m. – 7:30 a.m. This 90-minute window will allow you enough time to enjoy breakfast and still get to the mountain and be ready to compete on time. All of these amenities for an amazing rate of just $70 per room - per night (1-4 people per room).
If you choose to stay in Whitefish it is important that you support our partnership with Grouse Mountain Lodge. Please make your reservations as soon as possible. The dates for the 2008 State Winter Games are February 24 – 26th. Please mention that you are with Special Olympics Montana. The State Winter Games room blocks are on hold until January 28, 2008. After that date it will be a first come-first served basis, and that is if any rooms are available.

Following
are the lodging rates and reservations procedures for housing
athletes and their families during the Special Olympics to be
held at Whitefish Mountain Resort in February of 2008.
One
Bedroom Condominiums $115 per night for 1 to 4 guests
This would include properties such as the Edelweiss,
Bitterroot, and Anapurna.
Two
Bedroom Condominiums $150 per night for 1 to 6 guests
This would include properties such as Edelweiss and Sherpa,
as well as Two Bedroom properties in other smaller complexes.
The rates do require a two night stay, and taxes and
fees are in addition to the nightly rate quoted above.
