The Wellness Park at the Summer Games is how Special Olympics Montana advocates the Healthy Athlete Program.  At the Wellness Park, numerous health screening and health education venues, or booths, are available for athletes, as well as their coaches and families.  Health care professionals from around the state volunteer their time and expertise to run the various venues.  Since the 2002 Summer Games in Billings, Montana, the Wellness Park has been expanding to include more venues to better serve Montana Special Olympics athletes.

The 2008 Summer Games in Great Falls, again promises to be even more successful and fun this year to reach even more athletes participating in the Games.  There will be even more health screenings and interactive health education activities plus attendance prizes and costumed "guests" all in a positive atmosphere to promote improved health and fitness of the athletes.

The following Health Screening venues will be available at the 2008 Montana State Summer Games in Great Falls.

Special Smiles :   Visit the Special Smiles booth where our smile specialists will check your teeth and gums and help you learn the proper techniques to keep those pearly whites looking bright as a pirate's treasure! Get a brand new tooth care kit – a toothbrush, toothpaste and other FREE dental aids.

Fit Feet:   Keep your feet healthy and have Fit Feet for life! Professionals will examine and measure your feet for proper shoe fit. Obtain information regarding good foot hygiene, basic foot care and resources for podiatrists and orthotist care.

Healthy Hearing:   Can you hear me now? Visit the “Green Room” (near the Exhibition Hall) for a quiet place away from the hustle and noise. Professional staff from the Montana School for the Deaf and Blind will test your hearing.

Tobacco Free:   Rid yourself of the chewing tobacco and smoking curse.  Throw fake cigarettes into the garbage and win a prize. Information will be provided on how best to kick the habit to become "tobacco free."

Hydration:   Stop by the "Hydration Station" for a cool, refreshing drink of water. To perform your best during the Summer Games, keep yourself hydrated and drink plenty of water for your good health!

Strong Bones:   Strong bones are healthy bones! Have your bone density checked and learn your body mass index (BMI) at the Strong Bones booth.

FUNfitness:   Do you want to become stronger and faster for your next event? Visit us for flexibility, strength and balance testing and we'll create a home program just for you. Remember…fitness is FUN!

Sun Safety:   Beware! Too much sun can be dangerous. Come learn how the right clothing and headgear can be your protective armor. Decorate a visor to wear, and protect yourself from the wickedly harmful effects of the sun.

Nutrition:   What are your favorite foods? Talk to our dietitians and learn about these foods and see how best to choose the right amounts for proper nutrition.

First Aid :   Do you have a scrape that needs to be cleaned or bandaged? Or perhaps you’re feeling a little under the weather? Stop by the Wellness Park First Aid Station where professional staff will be on hand to assist with minor aches, pains and cuts.
