HIGHLIGHTS OF
THE SUMMER GAMES
A gala event will be held at the Four Seasons Arena in Great
Falls Montana. This event will be truly inspirational and
feature speakers, the parade of athletes, entertainment, music by the High Street Band, and much
more. Representatives of the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special
Olympics Montana will officially open the Games by bringing in the
"Flame of Hope" to light the Olympic Cauldron. The general

Olympic Village
The Village is an exciting place, where athletes, coaches,
families and volunteers can relax and enjoy many games, music, food,
and souvenir items. This
is a very popular entertainment venue.
Competition
The Special Olympics Montana Summer Games features
competition in nine Olympic-type sports: aquatics, athletics (track and field), bocce, bowling,
cycling, equestrian, golf, gymnastics, kayaking and power lifting. These sports are offered as individual competition and team
competition. In
addition, many team events are also offered as Unified Sports® competitions. The general public is encouraged to attend; no admission is
charged.

Carnival Dance
Aside from the competitive venues, the carnival dance is
quite possibly the most popular component of the Summer Games. Music, carnival games and an unbelievable atmosphere where
athletes, coaches and everyone else involved in the Games celebrate
the incredible joy that is at the center of the Special Olympics
Program.
The Special Olympics Wellness Park features dental, vision,
fitness and foot screenings. Healthier
lifestyle is promoted through topics on nutrition, bone care,
tobacco avoidance, sun protection and massage therapy. Coaches and families will want to encourage athletes to
participate and accompany them to the screenings. Completed consent forms, in advance or on-site, are necessary
for participation.

Throughout the Summer Games, the community will
have the opportunity to witness the truly heroic inspirational
athletic achievements by individuals overcoming obstacles and
demonstrating remarkable courage and determination. By participating in the Summer Games experience, you will
gain personal and communal inspiration from the athletes.

The
Special Olympics Oath:

STATE SUMMER GAMES
Since
the inception of the program in 1970, Special Olympics Montana
Summer Games have been the flagship event. This Olympics-style competition attracts athletes from every
part of the state. Competitions are offered in Aquatics, Athletics, Bocce,
Bowling, Equestrian, Gymnastics, Golf, Cycling, Power-Lifting and
Softball. Each athlete
who competes in the Games are trained and qualified through their
local programs and Area events.
In
addition to the 1000 athletes and 450 volunteer coaches, over 800
families and friends attend the Games. Approximately 600 local volunteers are involved to insure
that everything runs smoothly. The entire community is invited to become involved as
spectators, supporters and volunteers. Historically, as many as 8,000 spectators gather for the
Opening Ceremonies.
You
will cheer the determination of Special Olympics athletes who must
clear tremendous hurdles before the official competition ever
begins. You will marvel
at the athletic abilities of the many of the athletes. You will share in the thrill they feel from achieving and
giving their best. But
long before the Games begin, before the athletes even arrive, they need you to be on their team. Get involved as a sponsor and volunteer during the Games,
make plans to attend the Games and cheer on these heroic athletes.
