STATE SUMMER GAMES

Since the inception of the program in 1970, Special Olympics Montana Summer Games have been the flagship event.  This Olympics-style competition attracts athletes from every part of the state.  Competitions are offered in Aquatics, Athletics, Bocce, Bowling, Equestrian, Gymnastics, Golf, Cycling, Power-Lifting and Softball.  Each athlete who competes in the Games are trained and qualified through their local programs and Area events.

In addition to the 1000 athletes and 450 volunteer coaches, over 800 families and friends attend the Games.  Approximately 600 local volunteers are involved to insure that everything runs smoothly.  The entire community is invited to become involved as spectators, supporters and volunteers.  Historically, as many as 8,000 spectators gather for the Opening Ceremonies.

You will cheer the determination of Special Olympics athletes who must clear tremendous hurdles before the official competition ever begins.  You will marvel at the athletic abilities of the many of the athletes.  You will share in the thrill they feel from achieving and giving their best.  But long before the Games begin, before the athletes even arrive, they need you to be on their team.  Get involved as a sponsor and volunteer during the Games, make plans to attend the Games and cheer on these heroic athletes.
