(what is SWOT analysis?)
Periodically, Special Olympics Montana re-examines our road map to make sure we are heading the right way, with sufficient resource, to reach our destination. The Board of Directors has charged its Long Range Planning Committee to begin a deliberate process of reviewing where we have been and what we want to do to advance the Special Olympics Montana mission over the next ten years.
To this end, we invite anyone who cares for the mission of Special Olympics Montana – athletes, families, volunteers, coaches, sponsors, agency partners, donors, etc. – to complete a survey.

From your perspective, we are interested in learning what you think about Special Olympics. We’d like to know what you think are our strengths and weaknesses. We’d also like to know what you think could be our future opportunities and those things that threaten our ability to serve more athletes with quality program. And lastly, we’d like to know what you consider to be the key issues for us to work on into the future.
Underlying this survey, based on extensive review of history and data to date, are some key assertions we know to be true. These assertions will help guide our thinking as we seek your input and counsel. What we know to be true includes:
-
Special Olympics Montana, by virtue of its mission and vision statement, is compelled to provide quality program to increasingly more eligible athletes across the state.
-
Demographic and archival data research indicates that we have a universe of eligible individuals with intellectual disabilities that is approximately 10,000.
-
Assuming adequate plans and infrastructure are in place, and that we adequately resource efforts, very realistically we can serve 3,000 athletes annually by 2020.
-
Success of Project Quantum LEAP – Phase I the past two and one-half years suggests that this service model will be a significant component to reaching more athletes.
-
As demand for financial resources grow year over year, we are obliged to build sustainable long term funding to meet program needs. To this end, the 103 (10 to the Power of 3) Endowment Campaign with an intent to raise $10 million over 10 years will be an integral part of future growth.
-
As a volunteer-driven movement, future success is dependent on collaborative efforts between all stakeholders.
It’s been said that the best way to predict the future is to invent it. This is a perfect time for you to help us determine our future. Indeed, your input is important to us and will be collected until June 1, 2010.
You can complete the survey by downloading it as soon as possible and return to: Special Olympics Montana, One Voice Toward Our Future, PO Box 3507, Great Falls, MT 59403-3507.
