Good morning,

It’s day two in the office following my time at the USA National Games in Lincoln NE.  More than 3,500 athletes from across the United States are competing with tremendous skill, strength, courage, and oh, with so much heart!  The best of humanity is, indeed, surrounding these Games as we create a world of acceptance, respect and inclusion.  Makes my heart smile!

More competition today with closing ceremonies this evening.  For an update on the Games see details below from “Fan Mail”.  If you scroll down, you will also see a wonderful photograph of Bozeman athlete, Katie McNeil, running the 50 meter dash.   While not a person tall in stature, she found quickness in step to land a silver medal!   A remarkable and inspiring accomplishment!  And, it was my good fortune to be the one to present Katie her medal on the award stand.  What a thrill that was for me! 

Katie was so excited about her accomplishment.  She was a beaming champion!  And her parents and grandparents were bursting with pride.  What an exceptional moment for all. 

Thanks to all of you, and I mean each and every one of you on staff, for helping care for the integrity of our mission and creating opportunities like these Games for athletes, families, volunteers and communities across Montana.   As guardians and stewards of our movement, your role is pivotal to helping athletes like Katie have a place they can belong, to have the opportunity to chase their dreams and be all they can be, and to create a platform where our athletes serve as messengers/teachers about how we might all live better lives.

SUCCESS ON THE TRACK

Special Olympics Louisiana athlete Chelsea Orsborn, and Katie McNeil, of Special Olympics Montana, competed in the 50 meter run yesterday at Ed Weir Stadium. In a close race, Orsborn won gold and McNeil secured the silver medal.
