The coaches training camp will be held in Great Falls on Friday through Sunday, July 17 – 19, 2009.  There is a two and three-tier training schedule, which is included with this registration.   Coaches can attend as few or as many trainings as they desire, so long as the times do not overlap.  We are only planning for 50 coaches maximum, so attendance will be on a first come-first serve basis. Registration is due by June 15. Download and mail the form to the address above or fax it to 406-454-9043.

Anyone signing up for Level IV training, must take Level II training that same day, even if they are a Level II coach already.

Special Olympics Montana (SOMT) will cover the following costs:

  • Rooms at the Montana School for the Deaf and Blind (MSDB).  These cottages can hold up to 43 individuals and have two dayrooms and a kitchenette.  The rooms do not have private bathrooms.  Each room will house two coaches, so let us know if you have a roommate preference.

NOTE:  Anyone wishing to stay somewhere else must pay for their own lodging.  Only individuals actually taking training will be given rooms at MSDB.

  • Up to three breakfasts, three lunches and three dinners will be provided.  Anyone wishing to eat something else, or somewhere else will be responsible for their own costs.

  • Polo shirts will be given for those individuals completing Level IV training.  We will not be providing t-shirts as previously announced.

Due to budget constraints, SOMT will not be paying for transportation costs.

Effective June 1, 2009:

As SONA continues to review its coaches training practices, they develop and revise standards.  Many of you are already aware of the changes made regarding Level I training:  All the training is on-line and we are no longer accepting the video.  Following are two other changes:

  1. All coaches completing Level II training must complete 10 hours practicum with athlete(s) before becoming certified.  We are allowing up to one year to complete the practicum.  A reminder letter will go out if we do not receive your practicum hours.

  1. All head coaches must complete Principles of Coaching by 2016.  Those who have already taken this training will be grandfathered in.
