Coaches Training Camp
July, 2009

Special Olympics Montana (SOMT) is planning a Coaches Training Camp Extravaganza in July, 2009 at no cost to the coaches. We have tentatively scheduled this event for Wednesday through Friday, July 15 – 17 in Great Falls. If this is an inconvenient date, please let us know and we will consider other dates.

SOMT will provide complimentary housing at the Montana School for the Deaf and Blind (MSDB). There will be two people per room (some rooms will accommodate three), and there are several day rooms and a kitchenette available for gatherings. The kitchenette will be stocked with breakfast, lunch and snack foods. Individuals wanting to stay and/or eat elsewhere will do so at their own expense. Lunches will be delivered to venues where there is all-day training.

We currently expect to cover gasoline costs for coaches, but we do prefer that programs car pool to keep our expenses down.

SOMT expects arrivals on Tuesday, July 14. That evening we will offer a casual dinner at MSDB. This gathering will give everyone an opportunity to get to know one another and will allow SOMT staff to provide materials for the upcoming trainings.

Coaches do not need to attend all three days. Coaches who attend any of the trainings will receive a t-shirt. Coaches who complete Level IV training will receive a polo shirt for each completed Level IV training.

At this time, we are not planning to offer any training to athletes.

Wednesday evening, July 15, SOMT will host a dinner at a local restaurant (to be determined). Thursday evening we will provide a barbeque at MSDB to include some fun competitions.

In order to help us decide which trainings to offer, please complete the attached form and mail or fax to Risë Pelloni at the state office. We are requesting responses no later than March 15, so we will have time to arrange for facilities and trainers. download now

As a reminder, in order to be eligible for a coaching position on Team Montana at the National Games in 2010, a coach must be at least Level II in their sport. We are currently planning to bring athletes to compete in soccer, athletics (track and field), golf and bocce.

Help choose the courses for the training.
Please download and complete the preferences checklist
before March 15, 2009.
