Dec. 3 Team USA Update

Athletes, Coaches Arrive at Training Camp

All 355 athletes and 85 coaches of Team USA, in addition to the management team, arrived safely Wednesday, Dec. 3, at Copper Mountain in Colorado for training camp.

Upon arrival, athletes transitioned from state mode to sport mode after meeting with their World Games sport coaches. Then they checked in to their rooms at the resort. Athlete Brian Cahill of Massachusetts exclaimed "The room we're in is as big as my house!" and marveled at the refrigerator in his suite. "Are they gonna stock it for us?" he wondered.

Team USA members returned to the conference center for dinner and team building activities. Consultant Rose Snyder helped the athletes and coaches determine their personality “shape” and learn how to interact with their teammates of differing shapes.

Chants of USA , USA , USA broke out throughout the evening and especially during Annette Lynch of Special Olympics North America who encouraged all the athletes to do their personal best during the games in Idaho .

Tomorrow athletes will begin training and the evaluation process to determine that they are properly divisioned come games time.

Be sure to check out the Team USA photo gallery for more photos from check-in day.
