Special Olympics Montana
State Basketball Tournament Sets New Record of Participants

(Butte, Montana) Special Olympics Montana, a 38-year-old movement that enables children and adults with intellectual disabilities to train for life through sports has announced that the 2008 State Basketball Tournament will feature the largest number of competitors in the history of producing the tournament. Sixty-eight teams from all over the Big Sky will travel to Butte to compete November 6 – 8.

Tournament Premier Fan, Town Pump, has generously contributed $10,000 and Town Pump spokesperson, Maureen Kenneally, is serving as the Tournament’s Honorary Chairwoman. Gold Medal Fan, REC Silicon donated $5,000 and will be the presenting sponsor of the Opening Ceremonies scheduled Thursday, November 6, 7:00 p.m. at the East Middle School Gymnasium.

The Opening Ceremonies features the Parade of Athletes, the Tiernan Irish Dancers, the AOH Pipers and Drum, the Helena Cheerleaders sponsored by Westmont, the running of the Flame of Hope and the Lighting of the Cauldron. The Opening Ceremonies are free and the public is invited to attend and join us as we celebrate the joy of the human spirit!
