Special Olympics
Montana is honored to have been selected as one of the five
charities to participate in the Walmart
Associates Choice Program.
Your vote
for Special Olympics Montana will allow thousands of children
& adults with intellectual disabilities to gain the respect,
dignity, acceptance and inclusion they desire and deserve. Special
Olympics Montana celebrates its 40th Anniversary in 2010. According
to the Chronicle of Philanthropy, Special Olympics is among
the most credible charities in America. Over 2,000 athletes
and Unified Sports®
partners
participate in Special Olympics Montana with the valued support
of approximately 4,000 volunteers, many of whom are
Walmart Associates, supporting
the program.
In Montana,
120 Special Olympics programs offer sports training and competition
opportunities in 110 communities. Nearly half of the athletes
are school aged while the remaining athletes are adults who
come from group homes, sheltered workshops, day activities centers
and independent living locations.
The Special
Olympics experience allows children & adults with intellectual
disabilities to “Train for Life” as part of a statewide organization
built on a belief in their abilities. To that end, Special Olympics
Montana provides its athletes a wide variety of sports and training
experiences, health and wellness support, as well as opportunities
to develop skills as public speakers, coaches and committee
members. For athletes, Special Olympics provides opportunity
to gain educational life skills, healthy physical activity and
personal fulfillment.
Your vote
for Special Olympics Montana resulting in the $100,000 grant
will provide the funds needed to preserve the current daily
operations, and to begin offering services to hundreds more
children & adults with intellectual disabilities in our state.
